I’ve tried the double layered kozo and despite watching a few videos had a devil of a time separating the layers and never really got à flat print off. Your post suggests that if I’m successful in at least getting it apart, I could simply soak it to get smooth again. Does it soak off the backing sheet? Never tried it. Also, I tried the paper experimenting with translucency to allow silver leaf to shine through, but even at its very light weight, the kozo sheet is still quite opaque. Experimenting with various ways to permanently increase translucency in an archival manner. Difficult… Thanks for thé posts!

We'll have some tips regarding peeling, flattening, and mounting coming up. Just FYI I don't believe it would be easier to peel apart when wet, it would probably be too fragile and you would end up tearing it. Our first try with the double layered Kozo was really difficult. You can see in the pictures included there are two differing opacities. We actually ended up peeling a thinner layer off the top than what was intended. Figuring out where to separate the two layers with that paper can be a bit tricky. Our second attempt was perfect. Also the Mitsumata is a little more clear as to which layer is to be separated as they are two different materials sandwiched together.

Stay tuned we'll have a lot more to say about these thin papers.

Yes, I stopped trying when the paper kept peeling off in various thickness thin layers. Getting the initial corner loosened in the right layer is by luck only as far as I could tell. Should have sent it back. I’ll try the other one though. Probably most of their earnings come with trials. I have 5-6 partial boxes of trials. Does anyone want to share? That’s what we need a paper exchange!

Please explain why you would want to immerse a print in water?

stay tuned, it has a lot to do with creative mounting techniques we're working on. Hopefully we'll have those coming soon.

Looking forward to your posts to follow. I have boxes of Mitsumata and Kozo double layer papers from Awagami and four rolls of the old Epson Kozo paper. I want to explore different ways of mounting them for best effect. One valuable lesson learnt from your current post - I can "roll" the creases out of the two layer kobo by wetting them! I look forward to your posts.

Best Wishes.

Beware that the paper, especially those super thin peelable papers, do become more fragile when wet but much stronger than you would expect. Be careful while you are developing a feel for it. Hint... use a tub and "float" it onto your flat surface...

We are NOT done exhaustively testing yet but the peelable papers stick to real glass when dry and release from plexiglass (acrylic) when dry...

We have a lot of info coming up regarding some of these papers but it takes time to do all this given it's not a full-time job.

Thanks. I am learning, slowly, - sometimes by what I call "Trial and Terror"! Which is why I am looking forward to your experience and suggestions.
