Ridiculous Lens Comparisons, A Subscriber Thank You, and A Word About More To Come...
March 2023 wrap-up
A Shout Out To One of Our Community Members
One of our community members recently had an exhibition to share 50 years of his wonderful work. We’re honored we played a small part in helping him. Please congratulate him and share your own upcoming exhibitions. We’ll be glad to highlight any celebration of photography that any of you are participating in.
Thank you guys. Your PDF on holding a gallery show was a great help to me. After 50 years in this business, I finally had my first show. It’s been fantastic. It consists of my early years and the live music photography I did. Some of the images are almost 50 years old too. I had a lab produce 18 24” X 36” prints and I produced another 20 17” X 22” prints on my Epson P900. I used Moab Juniper. I scanned my old film on my old Nikon SuperCoolscan 5000 and edited in LR Classic.
Just wanted to say thanks and share.

More To Come
The last newsletter installment included a free copy of Les’ The Art Of The Gallery Show free to all paid subscribers. Art’s note to us made us realize that our very first “thank you” to those that help us pay for ink, paper, and keep the lights on through paid subscriptions wasn’t highlighted for new subscribers. We’ll fix that shortly with a new welcome email and paid subscriber summary of benefits.
As a thank you, to those that fund this newsletter for everyone, the 4th weekly newsletter every month will be for paid subscribers only. This is not necessarily a “special installment” just an extra way of saying thank you.
We thank all of our subscribers and think those generous enough to help through a paid subscription deserve a small bonus every month of an additional newsletter. Paid subscribers help fund this community for everyone. We hope to expand some of the bonus content and we’ll make those bonuses more clear for new subscribers. Stay tuned we’re currently working on an extended project for all subscribers that we hope everyone will enjoy.
Do Lenses Matter?
Les’ discussion about lens selection when traveling touched on a few points we’ve all struggled with. I’ll call that “lens anxiety” when planning for an epic trip in a faraway land. It’s always a struggle to decide what to bring, there’s always the temptation to bring it all and avoid all compromise.
After reading Les’ piece and participating in his struggle regarding rendering judgment on three of his “best” lenses I wrote up a few thoughts on “lens anxiety” in general that may prove helpful in a broader context for some of you in the form of “ridiculous lens comparisons”. I’ll do a few more with even crazier match-ups if anyone’s interested.
