I am fascinated by this series of posts and the ability to combine images with the art of making a book. You mention using a cotton rag paper as the base on which the images printed on Unryu are pasted. Then you all mention Khadi .... is this the cotton rag paper? If so who makes it and is it ink jet printable (at least for the text if not the images).

Hi Praja,

Sorry for the confusion. The cotton rag paper and the Khaki brand are the same. You can find out where to purchase khaki at <khadi.com>. First of all, for this project I used a pre-made bound book made by khaki, so you could not print on it directly anyway. They do sell unbound paper, but to my knowledge it is NOT coated for inkjet printing. I would suggest using fine art coated papers by Moab <moabpaper.com> or Awagami <awagami.com>.

I’m not sure you’ll see this. I’ll send a conventional email in a couple of days if you don’t respond.

Anyway, I’m curious to know what adhesive you used to adhere your prints to the Khadi notebook paper.

Thanks!

Thanks for asking this, Bruce. I used acid-free Nori paste. A little goes a long way.

Do you use Nori paste for all image mounting? I generally mount onto foam board, and use Moab Lasal Exhibition paper.Any suggestions?

Hi Dale. No, I do notuse Nori as our exclusive adhesive. Nori is wonderful for some of the finer Japanese washi papers or thin Western papers. I also use a dry mount press for many of our images, with archival mounting sheets, of course. With our Limited Edition prints, I do not use any adhesives at all. Rather I use an archival, linen hinge mount. I will be doing a Substack on adhesives and fine art mounting in the weeks to come.
