More gamut, we all want more color gamut, we all need more gamut. That’s what we all think. More is better right? Last week’s newsletter touched on that notion in terms of resolution both in the capability of the capture medium and lens goodness.
This week I wanted to share that bigger color gamut is not always “better”. Theoretically it’s good. Theoretically you can always reproduce the smaller gamut color rendition of any given photograph within that larger color gamut right? So how could one possibly complain about having a bigger color gamut. In our last Introduction To Fine Art Printing workshop I ran into a situation that’s not uncommon that is real problem in the real world rather than the theoretical world. I love running into these real world problemsbecause it is such a great example of “how do I match the colors on my screen to my print” questions that almost always comes up.
