You may remember we used to publish a “monthly wrap-up” in addition to the regular weekly newsletter. Typically I included things that I thought might be of interest to the print-loving community we have developed here. I also included our workshops that were still open for registration (rarely). I ceased to publish that somewhere at the end of 2022 due to what I perceived as a lack of interest.
Well… I was right but also wrong. I have received a load of requests asking for our workshop openings. I few newsletters ago I lamented that we had no openings in 2023 but would see if we could open any dates. I also promised to publish those openings every month. Here they are.
Introduction To Fine Art Printing
Our classic one-day workshop in Havre de Grace MD. Limited to four participants so that we can give one-on-one attention to every proof and final print in a hands-on environment. We opened up a new 2023 date last week; Saturday, October 21st from 8:30am to 4pm. We’ve not promoted this but as of today, there’s only one spot left. Yes, three people already registered, sorry about that.
Take a look at the details and register over on the LPFA website. Feel free to ask any questions via email or in the comments.
Portfolio Development Workshop
The end result is an expertly curated beautiful 13 x 19 presentation of your work in a cloth-covered wood presentation box. We managed to open up a weekend for this three-day workshop for November 10th this year. If you’d like to participate we need you to register before September 1st, 2023. We realize that’s not a lot of time. The reason for the rush is that the editorial process has to start two months before the workshop date for our sake as well as yours.
Details and registration are on the LPFA website. Take a look. If you have questions shoot us an email or leave a comment.
PDF eBooks Are Great But…
Earlier this month we released a free eBook; ”Guide To Moab Papers”. If you’re anything like us, we much rather see this printed rather than read it on a screen, especially a phone or small laptop.
Here’s a secret, we proofed it on paper. That downloadable PDF was designed to be printed in terms of dimensions, bleed, CMYK profile, and all the other parameters. We’ve made it available for the people that actually would rather have a paper publication, even just to see what the PDF looks like when published via Mixam. At the moment this is not free, maybe someday if we ever get a wealth benefactor.
If there’s a large demand we’ll take a look at getting the per-copy price down. Please let us know if you’d rather see future eBooks and long-form content available as paper publications.
Thank all of you and especially the subscribers that help fund this newsletter with a paid subscription.
I always prefer physical paper in my hand rather than ebook format. I agree with the comment it would be nice to buy a folio with a sample of various papers illustrating type of image enhanced by that paper.
Moab should make available for a price the book offered as a folio with each print on the appropriate paper. There is a difference between having sample papers and professional prints on those papers. .
