I love photography down to the core of my being. But even when traveling to exotic places I will often put the camera down for a part of the day and just look, listen, and live the day. Opportunities lost? Maybe, but like making smash burgers or tarring a driveway not forgotten.
When I was young a dry spell would cause me great stress. When I was older and life(family and earning a living) took precedence over photography I would feel bitter. Now I realize that creativity and life are interwoven and that even when not making images I'm still seeing them and learning. While i"m doing less work I'm more at peace with the work I do and I do more meaningful work.
Just had a cigar night outside on a beautiful evening with a fire and a couple of amazing sticks with good men. Didn't bring my camera, I had a hard day... maybe I should splurge on one of those Ricoh GR's...
Sloth, yup! Fear…not fear of messing the gear up—I’m ruthless there. It’s fear of failure. Also, a kind of inertia that comes with…sloth.
