As promised, here are our current workshop openings and a few other items to wrap up the month. Keep in mind every one of our workshops is limited to four participants so that we can give each person’s work the attention it deserves. This allows for a very different experience focusing on each person’s work and learning needs.
One opening left for Advanced Awagami Printing & Display
We’ve got one opening left for the Advanced Awagami Printing & Display workshop starting on Saturday June 8th 2024. You can find out more information and register at the link above.
This workshop focuses on:
Image selection to optimize the properties of Awagami Unryu Primio and Awagami Bizan
Production of two final mounted, framed prints.
Creative mounting to highlight the beautiful properties of these premium papers.
Mounting your prints to produce two final art pieces ready for presentation.
Sign up soon as we work with each participant before the workshop to get the most out of it and ensure that each person walks away with two final mounted works of art.
The Awagami workshop was exceptional. It provided practical information emphasizing the need for creativity rather than paint-by-numbers instructions. The workshop helped me understand the characteristics of the wide range, the differences among the papers, and useful suggestions as to what types of images will work best, and – equally important – which won’t. I went into the workshop doubtful whether Awagami washi papers would provide results worth the effort. I emerged convinced. &mdash Bill Iverson

Portfolio Development Workshop
This intensive, editorially focused 3-day workshop starts with multiple one-on-one consultations prior to starting the collaborative final editorial sessions and portfolio production in-person.
The result is an expertly curated beautiful 13 x 19 presentation of your work in a cloth-covered wood presentation box. We’ve scheduled the last 3-day session this year starting Friday, Nov 15 2024. If you’d like to participate register before September 1st, 2024. The reason for early registration is that the editorial process needs to start two months before the workshop date for our sake as well as yours.
Details and registration are on the LPFA website. Take a look. If you have questions shoot us an email or leave a comment.
As a relatively new photographer I tend to focus on invoking an emotion or feeling in a specific image. However, I am finding the true story can only be expressed in a carefully curated and edited portfolio of images. So if you are interested in learning a very thoughtful process for objectively assessing your images and finding the “true story” — Les and Bob’s workshop is definitely for you! They are both masters in their professions and are passionate in conveying their experiences. They have definitely have been big contributors to the development of my photographic skills. … Jeff Wagoner, MI USA
35mm Film Follies
Based on the survey last month, I was surprised that over half of our community either use film or are interested in using film. For those interested, you may want to take a look at how I use digital tools to evaluate the state of affairs concerning long-expired film and long-expired chemistry. I’m calling this series using my favorite subject of porch furniture; ”Refrigerator Rescues”. The pedantic test subject has led me to a few project ideas, more on that another day.
