In our studio we offer several workshops on framing fine art prints. As you'd expect, these include traditional framing behind glazing (glass or Plexiglas) and open framed prints, as well as specialty framing of Japanese washi papers.
But we also teach the art of mounting prints on Gatorboard. Why Gatorboard? It's inexpensive, very light, strong, long-lasting, resistant to warping (see details below), it comes in various thicknesses, it can serve as a backing board for traditionally framed prints, it is generally easy to cut and, if used properly and creatively, it can give you flexible and beautiful print displays. It can even work in public exhibitions of your work. What it does not do is take the place of tradionally framed prints. They are two entirely different display media.
